Dates of restoration efforts

Summer and Fall of 2012

Objectives

Collect cones from 15-20 rust resistant WBP trees in the St. Joe area to complete an operational seed lot (need a minimum of 20 trees at 200‟ apart). This seed would be used for future landscape level restoration projects.

Acres/ha treated

11 Trees

Methods

We have identified 5 separate stands to collect from. All work will be completed with FS employees. All needed materials will be supplied by the District. NEPA is not needed to complete this project. We have identified several trees with conelets within these 5 areas. Areas with the healthiest cone crops will be priority.

Planting

Will plant these seedlings in the future.  Trees were field evaluated for having no signs of White Pine Blister Rust before collecting.

Outcome

The Wishard Peak lot is 75% complete, we need to collect from 3-5 more trees in 2013 to complete this seed lot. We collected 295 cones off 11 trees @ +/- 35 seeds/cone = 10,325 seeds.

Monitoring since completion of the projectStJoe_Dittman_2012_Pic_

Seeds are stored at the CDA Nursery.  We completed the Wishard Peak collection in 2013.

Will outcome meet goals?

Yes

Future actions

We will continue to look for opportunities to collect seed and then sow seedlings to outplant.
